Why Do Classrooms Need Centers? Centers/Stations are so very useful in any classroom. Classrooms need reading centers to help students learn to work independently. After receiving whole group instructions on a particular skill, students need to gain confidence that they can complete activities independent of the teacher. Having centers/stations in the classroom will give students that boost they need in confidence and in their abilities.

Why Should We Differentiate?Differentiation is a must in center/station work. Students need to work on activities on their ability level. In most cases, not all students are working on level. Some are working above level and some are working below level. To be successful at any activity, students need to believe that they can do it. With differentiated activities, students are able to independently complete the work without becoming frustrated. This gives them the support they need to master their level and go on to the next level. Differentiated instruction ensures that all students learn and progress.
